Santa Rosa County, including Navarre
- Before a storm is threatening: install storm shutters or cover windows with plywood and secure all doors. If you plan to stay, the county says have supplies to be on your own for at least 72 hours. Evacuation orders may be issued before the National Hurricane Center issues a watch or warning, because of the time evacuation takes. Source: Before the Storm, checked Oct 14, 2026, 3:21 p.m. CT
- Permanent storm shutters are best. A second option on the county page is plywood and plastic sheeting: board up windows and doors, especially patio doors, with 5/8-inch marine plywood, cut to fit and ready to install. Brace double entry and garage doors. Source: The Hurricane Cone & You, checked Oct 14, 2026, 3:21 p.m. CT
- If you are in an evacuation zone or a mobile or manufactured home, the county’s goal is to be ready to evacuate one or two hours ahead of a hurricane warning. If you are not in an evacuation zone, the goal is to finish preparations within one or two hours after the warning. Whenever an evacuation is ordered, all manufactured-home residents should evacuate. Everyone else should know their zone and follow the official instructions. Source: The Hurricane Cone & You, checked Oct 14, 2026, 3:21 p.m. CT
- A mandatory evacuation means residents in that zone must leave. The county says it is illegal to stay in a home under a mandatory order. A recommended evacuation means residents and visitors are encouraged to find their own safe place, ideally with family or friends outside the zone.
